Shree Ayyappa Temple, Vasna, dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, is the oldest Ayyappa temple in Ahmedabad. Situated on the serene banks of the Sabarmati River, this temple holds a unique place in both spiritual and cultural dimensions. It stands as a beacon of secularism and unity, where devotion alone is the criterion for worship. Caste, creed, or religion pose no barrier at this sacred place.
For decades, the temple has been a source of spiritual strength and solace for thousands of devotees from Ahmedabad and surrounding regions.
The temple is managed by the Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sangham (Regd.), Ahmedabad Unit, which came into existence in 1973 and was officially registered as a Religious and Charitable Trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950 on 21st June 1980.
The foundation stone for the temple was laid on 24th September 1980 by His Holiness Kanchi Kamakoti Peethadheeshwar Jagadguru Sankaracharya Shri Jayendra Saraswati Swamiji. Daily poojas commenced from 17th November 1983. The temple structure was beautifully brought to life under the expert guidance of the renowned Kerala temple architect, Late Kanippayyur Parameswaran (Unny) Namboodiripad.
The Pranapratishta (consecration) of the presiding deity Lord Shri Ayyappa, along with Lord Shri Ganapathi, Goddess Ambaji, and Nagaraja, was conducted on 23rd January 1985 (10th Makaram 1160 – Avittam Star) by Thanthri Brahmashree Padinjaredath Manakkal Vishnu Bhattatiripad from Thrissur, Kerala. Many devotees witnessed a divine sign on this auspicious occasion—a white-headed eagle circled above the temple, echoing the sacred tradition of Sabarimala during Makaravilakku.
Subsequently, shrines were dedicated:
To Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu on 14th July 1988 (30th Mithunam 1163 – Punartham Star),
To Lord Kartikeya and Lord Anjaneya on 7th February 1989 (25th Makaram 1164 – Avittam Star), and to the Navagrahas on 4th June 1998 (21st Edavam 1173 – Atham Star).
In alignment with the Sangham's commitment to social welfare, particularly education, an Education Fund was initiated in 1985. Fulfilling this vision, Tatwamasi Vidyalaya was established in 2008 on our own land along Ognaj-Sola Road, offering a serene and environmentally conscious setting for affordable and quality education.
